Very chic!

Having finished my Green Man project, to my general satisfaction, I am left not only with six designs but also a rather nice pair of gold flecked corduroy trousers! They look as if I got them on Carnaby Street in about 1968.

Stepping smartly into the space vacated by my project my wife suggested immediately that I ought to draft my contribution to our annual Christmas letter. (It’s still November, for heaven’s sake!) Anyway: dutifully I buckled-to and knocked out a page. I had quite a shock, leafing through my diary, to remind myself what we had done, to see page after page of completely blank paper. It is certainly not the case, however, that nothing has happened. In fact, from the point of view of artistic creativity 2020 has been a remarkably active year. I regret to say that I am coming to realise that there must be a natural anchorite streak in me somewhere, despite the fact that I have always thought of myself as a rather sociable person.

Actually, I am puzzled by the general, panic-stricken demand that we must at all costs arrange to have a “normal” Christmas. It might turn out to be both instructive and enjoyable to spend Christmas in a totally different mode. Gosh! Am I starting to develop perceptible Scrooge tendencies? Not in these trousers!
