It will be no surprise to any colleague that in the process of preparing to move house I have discovered that there is really no point hanging on to a large proportion of the work I have done over the past thirty years. Phrases about “new brooms” have been heard with increasing frequency and volume. I have actually chucked away about a quarter of my old work (that proportion could well rise as the removal date draws closer.) I have been reluctant to throw away, however, perfectly good frames …. which cost me money.
So I had the idea that it might be useful to hold a sale of second-hand frames, and this I did at the South Square Centre over the past weekend. I took about fifty frames (of varying quality) and sold around a half of these. Although I still have stock of frames for which I have no immediate plans, the place is less cluttered, I am financially better off, and I have learned the lesson that I ought to be more selective in the future when it comes to the decision to frame a piece of work. I think, that I can count the exercise to have been a success. Perhaps the idea is one which might appeal to colleagues more widely. I can commend it.
