Collecting some of my pictures from a venue in which they have been on display, in order to prepare for an exhibition, I was surprised when I reached home to discover that one was missing. I made a very careful search of my storage racks , in case I had made a mistake, but to no avail. I did wonder whether I had been mistaken in thinking that the missing item was out on display, and a check of the computer file I use for printing labels suggested that it might indeed have been possible that the item in question had been at that venue.
There are two possible explanations I can think of. The first is that the manager of the place (or his staff) had moved the picture because they needed the wall space for some other purpose, and consequently I missed it. (I’ve sent him an email in order to eliminate that possibility.) On the other hand, it is possible that the piece was stolen! Now, there’s a thought! I have always thought that the accolade of success for an artist is the theft of their work. Have I finally made it? I have to confess that I’m in two minds about that one. Perhaps I will never know the true situation. I console myself with the idea that if somebody has pinched my picture they must have done so because they really liked it.
Congratulations!
