I have decided that for my solo exhibition in the South Square Centre, during April, I will concentrate on the numerous pictures I have done of Almscliff Crag. I was astonished, when I began to review this material, just how persistent a source of inspiration that place has been. What I want to do is to offer a “salon-style” exhibition, with images crowded all over the walls. The title of the event will be “An enduring obsession”, which about captures it.
Collecting the material together, and collating the information, I was astonished to discover that I had more that thirty pieces, just dealing with this single venue. This morning I took it into my head to look into one of my archive drawers and there I discovered another three pieces, all of which are suitable for inclusion. I was aware that Almscliff had indeed been a constant source of inspiration for my painting, but had not really registered before exactly how obsessional that relationship has been. Who knows: I might find still more material if I continue to root around. This tally, of course, doesn’t include the items I have sold.
