That is, if you spend it with good friends out in the sun on the celebrated Almscliff Crag. I was intrigued, on returning to the house, to find that I first climbed there almost forty years ago to the day, with a former colleague at the university.
If that is encouraging not all of the day was. The standard at which I climb is still not bad, but I was definitely put in the shade by the youngest member of our group, who at approaching 13 yrs old is climbing several grades above my limit. I tell myself that I have to raise 79 kilos to the top of the crag, whereas she only has to move less than half of that weight.
It’s been a good Easter break, with several pleasant country walks, although I have to admit that an hour of frisbee yesterday with the younger generation took it out of me more than today’s climb has done .
It will be nice if I can feel that there is a welcome return to something like normality tomorrow.
