A piece of good new arrived today, to ease my frustration at waiting to hear whether my recent bout of applications for exhibitions has been successful. My work has been featured today in the local newspaper, the Telegraph & Argus. What is more, I might be the subject of a local TV interview next week.
Some of you might have seen my work featured already on a website entitled Not just Hockney.* This useful piece of publicity is organised by Colin Neville, and is a reference source for the work of artists from the Bradford area. It goes back to the year dot, and of course its purpose is to highlight the fact that there is a lot going on in Bradford where the arts are concerned, going well beyond our most famous former citizen, David Hockney. One of Colin’s projects over the past few years has been to arrange for the work of local artists to be featured every now and then on the big TV screen in the main City Square. My work is to be given space in this year’s selection, which is going to focus specially on local landscape themes. The event is to be covered by the region’s TV chanel, and there is a possibility that I will be among those interviewed on that occasion.
Even if I don’t make the cut with the interviews which will be broadcast, the occasion is bound to be a lot of fun. It’s a great lifter of the spirits at a time when “painting” for me means decorating the conservatory.
