This stained glass business is an ever-developing challenge. I moved on today to the elaboration of a 40% version of the final thing. Although I’m convinced that my idea is a good one, I am coming to realise that it has a large number of small pieces in it, and that will add to the problems (and cost) of the glass technician. I’ll press on, however, and see what he says later.
The task of scaling up is also presenting challenges. Even though I have squared up the design, the task of reproducing curves accurately is by no means straightforward. It is one thing to draw a curve freehand on a piece of A4, and quite another when the same line has to be reproduced on a sheet 70cms. long.
The physical demands of this job are surprisingly heavy. I’ve been on my feet nearly all day, because there is no way I can work at a sheet that large while seated as a desk. I need to keep standing back to see the whole thing. It’s certainly absorbing. The afternoon disappeared in no time at all.
