I visited the Manor House museum and gallery in Ilkley this afternoon, at which I will be exhibiting during the Easter period. The curator and I seem to have hit it off, and I learned the very good news that a popular local group will be exhibiting in the neighbouring gallery at the same time, boosting the likely flow of visitors. The lighting arrangements there look very good. It is all looking very positive and I came away from the discussion feeling very optimistic about it all.
One feature of the situation did give me pause for thought, however, and that is the plan of the gallery which I was given, to help my preparation. When I added up the total wall-space available to me it comes to getting on for 30m. That is a whole lot of wall! I wonder if I might need to define the boundaries of selection somewhat more widely than I originally expected. Will that be an easier or a more difficult task than being forced to eliminate things I might have been hoping to include?
Anyway: that’s not this week’s problem. For the rest of the week I hope that I will have a clear run at preparation for the South Square show, which begins two weeks sooner. I returned from the art shop in Ilkley this afternoon with the materials I expect to need to tart up the framing of the remaining pieces for that exhibition. Why worry today about what can be put off until tomorrow?
