In the coming week I will be off on one of my occasional “art retreats”, when I rent a small cottage somewhere in a remote place, and go there with my art equipment (and absolutely no distractions) and wait to see what turns up. I’ve forgotten the number of occasions on which I’ve tried this as a means of “rebooting” my inspiration, but it usually works, and I find myself launched on some new track or another. The thing to do, I’m sure, is not to try to anticipate the experience, and permit myself to be surprised.
Preparation is not easy, because I don’t want to take my entire studio with me, but I do want to give myself the opportunity to go in different directions, should that be necessary. On this occasion I feel obliged to take with me the small oil pastel set I was given for my birthday. That should be an interesting challenge because it is some long time since I worked in that medium. The novelty itself might well get me moving creatively. We shall see. All I need nw is the assurance that it will not pour with rain for the whole time …. although this might force me to try my hand at still life.
So: wish me luck. I do take the isolation seriously, so I will not be posting for another week.
Hi John
I was part part of the ochrid boat crew!!
Enjoy your retreat
How nice to hear from you again! I do remember you well, and hope that everything is OK. The “art retreat” turned out too be mainly retreat with very little art, but I guess I feel better for it.
