If you don’t ask you don’t get

A little while back I mentioned that a possibility had arisen that I might be able to get a regular place in which to show my work in a nearby bistro and deli (Origins). Since then I have had a couple of very welcoming conversations with the staff, and it has been agreed that I can use their restaurant to present my work. Naturally I’m delighted. There will not be the same footfall as I get at the Square & Compass, in North Rigton, but every opportunity counts.

Over the past couple of days I have made a selection of my pictures and prepared the publicity and information to go with it. Unfortunately we will be leaving for a holiday tomorrow and I will not have the opportunity to put up the display until I get back.

By coincidence a recent edition of The Artist carried a piece in which the author was emphasising the importance of getting your work out there by all means possible. If the public can’t see work there is no chance that they will buy it. Equally important in my view is the fact that people cannot develop any sense of esteem for your art, whether or not they buy it, if it is not on show. So I have been busy developing a strategy to enhance the visibility of my own painting, and when we get back from the holiday I will be redoubling my efforts in that direction.

This blog is likely to be intermittent in the near future, as we will be travelling for several days before arriving at a settled destination, and I am not sure about the ease of access to the internet. I’m sure that there will be things to report, however, so please do keep looking. I am bound to come back with a new angle on things, and hopeful that I will develop some new ideas for compositions.
