It is proving very hard at the moment for me to make space for art…. at least, for the creative and productive aspect of it. The things which have occupied me have often been peripheral to anything that might be called “creativity”. I have managed to frame, quite successfully, a recent piece, thus salvaging a good frame no longer otherwise needed. I have accepted an invitation to speak about my work, and have begin to think about the shape of that event. Painting, however, seems to have been pushed to the back of the list of my priorities.
In large measure the reason for this is the threat hanging over me of moving house. We have agreed that this would be a good idea, but the extent to which this is going to occupy the full horizon of my awareness hadn’t really become evident before the past couple of weeks. The garden has to be kept in trim. Repair jobs around the house have to be undertaken. The filing cabinet has had to be weeded. Over all, however, the project has come to occupy more mental space that I find comfortable. I had intended to apply for a couple of exhibitions, but realised today that deadlines for these have passed without my being able to focus upon the selection for my work I would have wanted to present. An indication of the extent to which art has become marginal to existence is the fact that more than a week has passed since I even looked at this blog.
In short: I need to get a grip!
