…. have something in common, it seems. Do you remember that rather good TV drama series Frasier? Somewhat eccentrically it revolved around the lives of two psychiatrists in Seattle. Frasier Crane, the elder brother, gave his name to the series, but his younger brother was called Niles. (Don’t ask me why! Have you ever encountered anybody with that name?)
Niles was an inveterate snob, and very aware of his own status. We never actually saw it (because the series took place entirely on the set of Frasier’s apartment) but Niles must have had a pretty spacious pad. There was one episode in which he made reference to his “gift-wrapping room”. Extravagant as that idea might seem, today I have begun to realise that this concept is not an entirely fantastic one. As Christmas approaches, the studio is gradually but inexorably being transformed into our “gift-wrapping room.”
As things stand I am managing to hang one one table as the protected habitat of art …. although my wife did remark that it would make a very good gift-wrapping table! Art doesn’t stop, you know, just because it’s Christmas!
