“No direction home….”

…. to quote Bob Dylan, although I’m not sure that it is correct to describe me as a “rolling stone”.

Greatly to my relief I have found it possible to begin painting again, although I spend a good deal of my time fighting off distractions. The biggest of these is the fact that we have decided to move house. Although we have sold our long-term home the search is still on for somewhere go. The problem dominates most of my waking life. I find it disturbing to have no longer any sense of what constitutes “normality”.

Curiously, the situation has come to be reflected in my painting. Woodland scenes have rather taken over my repertoire these days. (Farewell to rocks …. at least for the time being.) I am well embarked on a new piece, and quite pleased with the direction it is taking. I realised suddenly yesterday, however, that what I’m painting is the prospect of a wood through which there is no evident path. The direction of travel appears to end in obscurity. It does feel as if there is a parable in there somewhere.
