A long time has passed since I last posted. All is not lost, however, and I am still in the land of the living. The primary diversion from art has been the fact that we have decided to move house. This has been a huge distraction mentally, and well as demanding a great deal of time and energy.
My wife and I have lived in our present home for twenty seven years, so that the emotional work to be done is enormous. We are making progress, however, and although we are a long way from completion of the project the fact that I have the energy and focus to return to this blog is an indication of what has been achieved. We have sold our house, and although we have yet to find a new one, the sense of just what it is that we are looking for has become a lot clearer.
An important indicator of the mental progress that has been achieved is the fact that today, after a very long break, I was able to get back to painting again. This has not been straightforward. Getting my materials out again felt very odd, and for a time I really began to wonder if I had forgotten how to do it. The first colour-washes that I mixed were not what I needed at all, and I got there only by what I gather engineers call “the method of successive approximations”. I count it as an achievement that I have even been able to identify a subject.
It could well be that I find it difficult to post on a regular basis, but it will be worth your while to keep checking me out. It’s good to be in touch again.
