I don’t think that in the past I have appreciated sufficiently the importance of the daily postal delivery. An accumulated problem of the holiday congestion, the recent severe weather and the sheer inefficiency of the Post Office has resulted in the fact that yesterday we received our first delivery in two weeks. Oddly this has brought us only a fraction of the items we have been expecting, and not the items for which we have been waiting the longest. Even then, our post was delivered to a neighbour’s house. (I’ve had little interest in the neighbourhood Wattsapp circuit before now, but it has demonstrated its utility at last in sorting out this problem.)
These delays have posed a particular challenge for me in that the final items of information I need in order to commission the revision of this web-site are somewhere in the post. I dare say that it will all be sorted out before long. It is curious, however, that a communication system devised early in the nineteenth century can still bring to a standstill the operation of system created in the twenty-first.
