I have become convinced that the primary reason for my inability to engage with art, over recent weeks, is the prospect of our moving house. An enormous amount of my time has been diverted into activities such as ensuring the that garden is presentable, and disposing of things we no longer need, and would not want to take with us. Of course, these are desirable things to achieve, but they do seem to have become such consumers of my time and attention that what I hoped would be my primary activity (art) has been pushed into the background.
I have managed to complete a couple of portrait sketches of my wife during the past week, which have been a satisfying exercise, but these have been tucked into half-hour slots during the evening, and there has never been any sense that they are leading to a recovery of my sense of purpose and direction.
It is possible that the situation might be changed by matters beyond our control. I have read a couple of articles during the past week which have suggested that the property market is unusually flat (generally speaking) for a variety of reasons. As there is no pressing reason for us to move in the immediate future I do wonder whether it might be a good plan for us to put the matter on hold for a while, until conditions change. By fair means or foul something has to be done in order to create the space/time in my life which will enable me to recover my connection with painting.
