I discovered today that the most important attribute of an artist must be tenacity. Finally I have managed to get off my application for participation in the forthcoming Take Time exhibition, in Ilkley. It is impossible to convey the rococo character of the application form and accompanying request for illustrations. For some totally inexplicable reason they want the illustrations of your proposed submission to include the frame! This meant that I have had to take new photos of each of my proposed entries, because (like every other artist) I have my work photographed immediately on completion, and before it is framed. The bit of the process I thought was good was the invitation to competitors to explain briefly the correspondence between their work and the theme in question. Certainly in my case the links were quite subtle, and I was glad to be able to offer that.
Tonight I’m going to attend the regular opening session of new exhibitions at the South Square Centre. The new offering from the Unit 9 group is from Jenny Crawford, who is returning to us after a long period of illness. There’s tenacity for you! I’m full of admiration.
