The whole man

It is an old truth (of which my father was very fond) that the different aspects or dimensions of our humanity are all intimately connected …. body, mind and spirit. Today I managed to get out for a walk with my usual climbing partners (I’m still not permitted to climb, after my pacemaker operation.) We went for a tramp of about 6 miles along the lovely Hebden Water, past Hardcastle Crags. It was a really beautiful, sunny day, although the river was well and truly in spate after the recent rain.

It is striking the extent to which my recent weeks of physical confinement have undermined my spirits as well as diverting energy from thinking tasks on which I want to make progress. For the first time in some weeks I feel that I am on the way up. My enthusiasm was helped along by the fact that I was really stimulated by the woodland of the Hebden Valley. I’ve made a mental note to get back there in the near future and collect some more source material for pictures.
