This might seem ridiculous, but ….

…. I’ve got to the point at which the thought actually entered my head that it might be a good idea to have a personal assistant.

Yes: I know that this seems crazy, but I am getting to the point at which I feel so oppressed by contemporary communications technology that it does not seem that it would be a waste of money to employ somebody who can act as a barrier between me and the outside world. The event which has precipitated this as much as anything else is this. I spotted an advertisement for an open exhibition, the title of which seemed to be right up my street. I have got as far as trying to contact the organisers in order to check out what is involved, and even at this stage the barriers to participation strike me as so high, in terms of the complexity of the process, that I am wondering seriously about whether it would be worth the effort, regardless of how successful the experience turned out to be. Somebody better-versed in communications might well find that my response is a load of fuss about nothing.

What was wrong with the system in which one filled in a form, wrote a paragraph by way of a personal statement, and sent a couple of photographs?
