Watching paint dry

When I decided to break up my old set of display screens and turn them into storage racks for pictures I didn’t realise that it would be quite such a familiar activity.

The task is well under way, and I have begun to assemble the new structure. For various reasons it has to be painted as it develops, rather than leaving this until the end. This turns out to be a slower process than I had expected. Down in the cellar the air is cool and moist, and in large measure I am painting over a varnished surface, which inhibits absorbency. So the task is starting to lag behind schedule.

It actually reminds me of the days when I used to work with oil paint. I seemed to spend an inordinate about of time watching paint dry. The association is not absurd. These racks will be a work of art when they are finished!
