I took advantage of today’s fine weather to get out for a good walk. This really felt necessary after the amount of time I’ve spent sitting in front of the wretched computer for the past few days. For some time I’ve had it in mind that, should the opportunity arise, I would like to climb Buckden Pike again. So I set off today for the Yorkshire Dales.
It was a good walk, of about 9 km. (I’ve forgotten how high the hill is, but in my present unfit state it was quite a challenge. No doubt I’ll be feeling it tomorrow.) It was a bit disappointing that clouds came over as I approached the summit, because Buckden Pike is known for the fine view it affords of the famous “Three Peaks of Yorkshire.” With a stiff breeze as well the apparent temperature was well below zero. Even so, it was a very satisfying walk, and I feel better for it.
When I got home it emerged that my wife was expecting that I would make the dinner. Usually I’m very happy with that, as I enjoy cooking. Tonight, however, I was faced with the challenge of making something with whatever happened to be left in the fridge, as our weekly supermarket shop doesn’t take place until tomorrow. Well: here’s the challenge. Using the following ingredients I did, in fact, make a meal that we both found very acceptable. I wonder what your response would have been to this task.
1 small piece of chorizo, 1 small pack of pancetta, an onion, some garlic, a pack of miniature tomatoes, two portobello mushrooms, a half of a yellow pepper, some left-over cooked broccoli. There were the usual condiments and cooking oil. When I arrived back at the house my wife had already made a commitment to two large baked potatoes. (I could have used a half a leek and some carrots, but decided not to. They are available, however, for use as ingredients in your suggested solution.) I would love to hear what you come up with.
