Today I realised very clearly that it is time I took a rest. In fact, I don’t think that is a result of yesterday’s exploit, from which I am not experiencing any ill effects. To my surprise, I must be fitter than I feared.
It may seem very strange to those of you who have been compelled to be more idle than usual during the pandemic, but an odd effect of isolation, for me, is that it has released me to throw myself into creative work very intensely. I have just run out of steam, artistically speaking, and although that might sound as if it should be very cerebral, I do feel pretty thoroughly weary. On reflection also, I believe that the last three days spent revising and updating the website have been far more stressful that I expected, for various reasons.
I really do want a break, and I expect that a large and complicated jigsaw puzzle is what I really need. They are totally absorbing, and it is not possible to engage physically, intellectually or emotionally with anything else while immersed in a good one thousand piece puzzle. Some fresh air will be nice too, if only it stops raining.
I reckon that I might give myself a week off and check in again to wish you all a Happy New Year. Meanwhile, I hope that you will have a good Christmas, even if it turns out to be different from usual, and possibly a long way from what you were hoping for. Talking of Christmas, you could do worse than to check out the Clayton Baptist Church Nativity, on Youtube (under that title). In a period when cultural activities are in short supply this might well meet a need! In fact, I wish you the Christmas that you really need.
