Variety is the spice of life!

Well, I certainly had that feeling today invigilating our winter exhibition at The Gallery Upstairs.*

Invigilating an exhibition on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of winter is not usually looked on as an exciting prospect among our members. I confess that the realisation that this is my spot on the rota doesn’t normally see me rubbing my hands in expectation. I have to admit, however, that today’s session was really quite noteworthy. Not only were there more visitors than I have come to expect, but I was able to renews one very old acquaintances.

What is the statistical probability that on one Sunday afternoon two of my former students should happen to wander into the gallery? My word, that was a blast from the past, as one of them dated back to about 1970! Names were traded that have not been on my lips for four decades.

At the other end of the emotional scale, however, was the discovery that some serious cleaning needs to be done on the hand-rail up the stairs. I guess that’s life.

*Yes: we have begun to use the new title for the former Unit 9.
